![]() I'll come back to give this place another shot down the road and try more items on the menu. However, I don't feel the restaurant has elevated the taste of other Albanian restaurants like Çka Ka Qellu or Dua Kafé. Overall the pricing was fair and I did appreciate the hospitality of the servers. It didn't have that oozing of leches that I expect when biting into it and it wasn't as sweet as I hoped. The cake also came out pretty quick, but it had a very bread-like texture that resembled more of a sponge cake than tres leches. Of course we couldn't forget dessert, so we decided to order a Tres Leches. Just wish the schnitzel had been more fresh. The menu states that the schnitzel is served with potatoes, but it was served with fries and ketchup. The food came out pretty quick, which was fine, but maybe too quick? The schnitzel wasn't so warm when it arrived, which gave me the impression it was pre-made. I thought the mix of cheese, vegetables, and pepper was executed pretty well.įor our main course, we ordered the chicken schnitzel dish. I did enjoy the sopska salad and thought it was a hearty portion. I expected it to have more flavor, but it was a little dry and bland. The fli was okay, nothing to write home about. While the concept was cute and the decor was lovely, unfortunately I wasn't very impressed by the food.įor starters, my mom and I ordered the fli dish and sopska salad. This restaurant offers a variety of Albanian and American dishes - I would consider it fusion. I really hope this doesn't happen to Mimoza because they are perfect the the way they are.Ī new Balkan-themed restaurant has opened in Astoria! Had to check this place out. Some restaurants are great when they first open, and then they let it go after a while. ![]() So they get a five star for service as well. The server was kind, positive, and quick. He was there to ask how my soup was and made sure to say bye when I was leaving. The owner personally came and greeted us. I left the restaurant thinking, "When the food is this good, another Eastern European restaurant is quite welcome on Astoria." So I already know what I'm getting next time. I didn't try anything else, but I saw the meat burek and cevapi that others ordered. ![]() The calamari and the meat and cheese were also great. ![]() The stock, the amount of chicken, the veggies.everything was perfection. It's hard to find chicken soup that tastes like your mom made it well, this one achieved that level of goodness. I tried fried calamari, the meat and cheese board, and the chicken soup. Astoria has quite a few Eastern European restaurants that I like, so I wasn't super excited about seeing another one., until I tried the food. I was there with a large group last weekend. They also gave us - and refilled! - warm bread.so perfect with the sarma. My friend and I each got drinks (note: $5 mimosas!), and we split the "fli" (a multi-layered crepe like dish that comes with feta cheese and pickles.sounds like a strange combo if you've never had it, but it really works!), a sopska salad (tomato, cucumber, peppers, feta cheese, olive oil, and vinegar - nicely done), and sarma (sour cabbage stuffed with ground beef and rice, and paired with mashed potatoes). The waiter was very friendly and cheerful, and he told us that they served pan-Balkan food, with a focus on Montenegrin food. :) The crowd here too seems to mostly be from the Balkans too, so I think that's always a good sign. ![]() But then I realized it's just the Balkan way of expressing that you can go there at any hour of the day and have a good time. What a great spot right on 30th Ave! I'm not going to lie, I was a bit skeptical because this place gives off more of a nightclub/lounge-y vibe when you pass by (and it's also in the name, ha). Tried this place with my friend for an early outdoor dinner a few days ago. ![]()
